Not far from the nature reserve of Vendicari and the coastal landscape of Capo Passero lies the small town of Pachino.
Visitors to this place encounter typically Sicilian small town life. Agriculture, especially viniculture, defines the landscape. Those who decide on spending their holidays in this place and area for sure value unspoilt nature.
Pachino is also called "il paese del sole e del ciliegino", the village of the sun and of the cherry tomato. The deliciously sweet ciliegini are cultivated at and around Pachino. They are great ingredients for salads and tomato sauces and perfect for garnishing Mediterranean dishes.
Baroque Chiesa Madre in the main piazza of Pachino dates back to 1790.
The beaches along the coast at the southeastern cape, from Capo Passero to the seaside resort of Pachino-Granelli, are a perfect dream. The green and largely unspoilt nature in this area is always caressed by a pleasantly fresh breeze.
Tip: When you are at small Capo Passero, the southernmost comune of Sicily, stop by bar "Plaza del Sol - Il Bar più a sud d'Europa isole escluse" (the southernmost bar of Europe, islands excluded). It is of course located right by the sea and offers refreshments and snacks.
