If you spend your holidays on Italy's largest island, you will find delight not only in the gorgeous landscape, but also in the weather. The Mediterranean island climate is characterized by dry, hot summers and mild winters. The best time for a journey to Sicily is in May/June and September/October.
From as early as April to, and partly even through, November, temperatures are high enough to go swimming in the sea.
Those who want to spend cultural or hiking holidays in Sicily are well advised to do so in spring, between March and June, and in autumn, from September to November, because temperatures are more agreeable than in midsummer.
But even in winter, average temperatures rarely fall below 10 degrees Celsius.
From April to October, you need not worry much about rainy weather. During the summer months, the average is two to three days of rain at the most. Only in winter there may be periods of several days of rain in a row, which, by the way, revives Sicily’s lush and verdant vegetation.
Kissed by the sun – from May to September, both locals and visitors may, in general, count on eight to eleven hours of sunshine per day. More often than not, vacationers return home tanned like the Sicilians.
With an average of 25 degrees, water temperatures reach their peak in August. Even in winter, water temperatures of the sea along Sicily’s coasts rarely fall below 15 degrees.
