A dream of a holiday home at the seaside

The holiday home, which is named after its friendly owner Nella, is located right at the seaside in Ognina, a small seaside resort with idyllic fishing harbor. Ognina is found on the border of nature reserve Plemmirio, only 10 km from UNESCO World Heritage listed Syracuse.

Ognina is known for its untouched underwater world. Snorkeling equipment can easily be rented at the local diving center. Explore the fascinating world under water and experience the diversity of the Mediterranean Sea!

At the rocky coast stretching out in front of the house, there is an access to the sea with its crystal clear waters. So before having breakfast you might just take a refreshing swim in the sea. A small sandy bay is only about 400 m off.

To those who love long, gently sloping sandy beaches, we recommend excursions to Fontane Bianche (5 km) and Avola (15 km).

Comfortable holiday home with garden and WIFI

In order to preserve the privacy of the holiday home, the garden is screened from the low-traffic cul-de-sac road.

You enter the house into the spacious living-dining area with fireplace, sofa corner, TV and access of the terrace. The open, masonry kitchen includes 4-burner gas stove, oven and refrigerator with freezer compartment.

A double bedroom and a bathroom with shower, WC, bidet are also found on the ground floor.

A narrow spiral staircase takes you to the upper floor with another double bedroom, a twin bedroom as well as the second bathroom with shower, WC and bidet.

Sea view roof terrace and fenced premises

The roofed terrace on the ground floor features garden furniture, sun beds and outdoor shower. On the outdoor grill behind the house, you can prepare delicious meals, e.g. fresh fish from the market with colorful vegetables. The taste of the fresh Sicilian ingredients is fascinating!

The villa’s roof terrace opens upon a gorgeous view of the sea. Enjoy the play of colors of sea and sky at sunrise and let the day fade away while savoring a glass of wine.

You can park your car on the fenced premises.

Your hosts: winegrowers family Raffa

The family of your host Valentina lives on a gorgeous property outside of Noto. Not only olives and citrus fruit are cultivated there, but also famous Nero d'Avola. Family Raffa's Nero d'Avola red wine is called "Donnaraffa", a quite fitting and appealing name. The wine can be bought onsite directly from Valentina. This also goes for the olive oil of the same name.

Restaurants and pizzerias (only open during the summer months) are found about 700 m from Villa Nella.

Shopping facilities and more restaurants are found 5 km off at Cassibile. Big shopping can be done year-round at the supermarkets of Syracuse.

Tips for excursions in the southeast of Sicily

Sicily’s southeast is characterized by nature reserves Plemmirio and Vendicari as well as long sandy beaches between Avola and Portopalo di Capopassero. Fantastic Baroque towns such as Noto, Ragusa Ibla and Modica make a stay interesting and attractive also outside the summer months. They are a must-see for travelers to Sicily. The sight of the Baroque buildings is amazing and breathtaking.

A wonderful place for small hiking tours is Riserva Vendicari. At the laghetti there migratory birds stop for a rest and a break during their long, exhausting journeys in autumn and spring. Sandy beach bay Cala Mosche at the nature reserve is a bathing spot popular with locals.

Not too far from Villa Nella lies Syracuse. Its, also Baroque, Old Town of Ortigia is 'surrounded' by the sea and lined by seaside promenade Foro Vittorio Emanuel II. Stop and linger at one of the small cafés there and enjoy the view of the deep blue sea.
