Villa Marilu - Holiday home with sea view near Syracuse

Living out of doors on four terraces

Villa Marilu is a comfortable holiday home with spacious outdoor area on the border of nature reserve Plemmirio in the south of peninsula Isola di Siracusa and only 13 km from UNESCO World Heritage listed Syracuse.

When we visited, friendly owner Maria Lucia went into rhapsodies about mild full-moon nights on the villa’s terrace, when the moon and the stars illuminate the landscape and the sea takes on a golden glow.

Both during the daytime and in the evening you are sure to find your favorite spot on one of the four terraces, two of which are roofed.

A charming holiday home

The ground floor of Villa Marilu includes the living room with wood-fired stove, TV and sofa, the kitchen (incl. gas stove, oven, refrigerator with freezer compartment), a double bedroom, a bedroom with bunk bed and a bathroom (shower cabin/WC/bidet).

The third bedroom, a double with en suite bathroom (shower cabin/WC/bidet), is found on the upper floor. The bedroom opens onto the terrace-like balcony.

Furnishing of Villa Marilu also includes air conditioning (extra charge for use), WiFi, wasching machine, iron and radio.

Garden with outdoor kitchen

A fantastic splendor of Mediterranean plants adorns the property Villa Marilu is located on. Pine, olive and carob trees provide for pleasant shade on hot days and bright bougainvilleas add dabs of color.

With its terraces, two with sea view, and balcony the holiday home offers lots of space for relaxing out in the open and you are sure to find your favorite spot(s).

In the outdoor area you find at your disposal: seating accommodations, rattan furniture, loungers, a sunshade and an outdoor shower.

Outdoor kitchen: If you want to do your cooking out in the open, use the outdoor kitchen with brick pizza oven, grill and 4-burner gas stove. 

Parking: You can park your car on the fenced premises.

Surroundings

A grocery store and a pizzeria are about 200 m, the nearest restaurant and supermarket 3 km from the holiday home.

From Villa Marilu it is a 300 m walk to the rocky coast with steep access into the sea; 1.5 km off along the coast, there is a bathing spot with gently sloping access to the sea. Sandy beaches with parking facilitiy are ca. 5 km off.

Tips

At nature reserve Plemmirio, you have got the chance to dive into the crystal clear waters and explore an underwater world rich in species. It is a great opportunity to get to know the Mediterranean Sea under water.

Snorkeling equipment can be rented at the diving centers in the surrounding area, which also offer diving courses.

Cicero, greatest orator of his time, described Syracuse as "the greatest Greek city and the most beautiful of all". At Ortigia, the Old Town of Syracuse located on a small island, you experience pure culture and feel the breath of past times.

A leisurely walk through the car-free centro storico takes you through lovely alleys, where small artists' shops display their goods out in the open.

Stroll along the seaside promenade to the cathedral square. It is the town’s grandest square and characterized by late Baroque buildings and the majestic cathedral with its well-preserved columns of the former Temple of Athena.
