In the 19th century, only the Italians who owned a house outside of town went on holiday – for example, the well-off citizens of Syracuse. Even back then Isola Siracusa, the green peninsula south of Syracuse, was a preferred holiday retreat and a place to escape to when the heat in the city became unbearable.
Caressed by the sea and given the hilly area, there is always a pleasant breeze on the peninsula. The view of sea and mountains is fantastic. Even today you feel completely at ease there.
Built on Isola Siracusa at the beginning of the 19th century, Villa Antica stands out as a gem of times gone by. It might be your perfect accommodation, if you want to spend authentic holidays in the south-east, close to the sea, to culture and to nature.
Villa Antica is one of several holiday accommodations (homes & apartments) on 20,000 m2 premises with Mediterranean planting and a pool for shared use.
When we visited, we were told that the house had been completely restored, but many 'witnesses of the past' had been preserved: typically Sicilian, handmade rustic furniture, quarry stone walls, old paintings, impressively high, wood-beamed ceilings.
Get an impression of where the Syracusan upper class used to spend its holidays and feel the charms of times gone by.
You enter Villa Antica into the spacious living-dining room with an arched opening between the living and dining areas.
The holiday home also includes a kitchen (incl. 4-burner gas stove, refrigerator with freezer compartment, small oven), a bathroom (bathtub with shower device/WC/bidet), two comfortable, rustic-Sicilian style double bedrooms and a sunroom.
The sunroom is a light-flooded feel-good oasis, which radiates a special kind of atmosphere, and the highlight of Villa Antica. You can relax there at any time of the day; it has got a cozy sofa corner and a dining area and can be 'shaded' to keep out the sun and the heat. The sunroom is accessible from the living room, from one of the bedrooms and from the garden.
Furnishing of Villa Antica also includes TV, air conditioning with heating device and washing machine. WiFi login is available in the outdoor area.
In the garden and on the terrace next to the house, you find garden furniture, a sunshade as well as deck chairs at your disposal.
Dependance (on request): Next to Villa Antica, there is a dependance which accommodates two further guests.
Above Villa Antica lies the greened area with pool (length 18 m), loungers, changing cubicles and WCs. The pool is open from mid-May to October (changes due to weather conditions possible).
Parking: There is a reserved parking space for your car on the fenced premises.
The sea and restaurants are ca. 700 m, shopping facilities ca. 1 km from Villa Antica. The nearest sandy beach with parking and small bar is 1.6 km, a boat rental 1 km off.
"Ostrica Park" (700 m) and "Il Circolo" (1 km) are two restaurants we can recommend. They are located right by the sea and serve delicious dishes of fresh-caught fish.
When vactioning at Villa Antica, you are not far from Syracuse (ca. 7 km), a city so rich in history and surely worth a closer look.
