Marina di Ragusa is part of the municipal area of the town of Ragusa, which is located 25 kilometers to the north.

Marina di Ragusa used to be considered a fishing village, and not until the 19th century did it develop into a small town with shops, bars and restaurants.

Besides enjoying holidays at the beach, you appreciate being close to worthwhile towns, for example Noto, Ragusa and Modica, which are considered significant centers of the Sicilian Baroque and which the UNESCO has declared World Heritage Sites.

Historic Ragusa Ibla - Unesco World Heritage

Ragusa is characterized by deep gorges in the limestone rock of Monti Iblei. Over centuries, the growing town had to come to terms with the geographic conditions.

Thus, a town split into three parts has developed. The oldest and smallest part, baroque Ibla, is by far the most impressive.

That is why it is the center of interest for visitors: With its abundance of Baroque churches and palaces as well as its romantic atmosphere Ibla is a fascinating destination.

When visiting Ragusa-Ibla, you must not miss out on a walk in the "Giardini Iblei" at the eastern end of Corso XXV. Aprile.

The charming gardens invite you to sit down and take a break. At their end, you have got a good view of the valley of Fiume Irminio below and the surrounding gorges.

Spighe Verdi – sustainability award for Ragusa

Every year, the Fee Italia (Foundation for Environmental Education) awards the Blue Flag to the cleanest beaches in Italy. From now on, the towns and villages which attach great importance to sustainable development are awarded the "Spighe Verdi" (in English: Green Ears).

The award is based on certain criteria which include, amongst others, educational measures for sustainable development, innovation in the field of agriculture, proper use of the land as well as quality of offers in the field of tourism.

Ragusa in southern Sicily is among the 13 towns in Italy which have been granted the award in 2016.

Punta Secca

About 7 km from Marina di Ragusa you will find the small costal town of Punta Secca.

By the locals the town is called „A Sicca“ (the sandbank). Most probably, the town with its characteristic lighthouse owes its name to a small rock formation off the east side of the beach.

Punta Secca, belonging to the municipality of Santa Croce Camerina, became famous as one of the main locations for the Commissario Montalbano film series. In the town’s piazza, you will find the house inhabited by Commissario Montalbano in the film adaptations of Andrea Camilleri’s novels.
