Wide sandy beaches and culinary delights
Between Siracuse and Noto you will find the small town of Avola. Wide sandy beaches, delicious almond specialities and the famous red wine Nero d'Avola - that is what the town is well known for beyond its boundaries. The people here still live mostly on farming, vineyards and groves of lemon, orange and almond trees characterize the landscape.
Sicilian Grand Canyon
In the hinterland of Avola, you will find the "Sicilian Grand Canyon", the Riserva Naturale di Cava Grande del Cassibile. This lovely nature reserve is pervaded by heavenly calm. Lush maquis, fragrant oleander and giant plane trees line the descent into the river valley of the Cassibile. At the bottom of the gorge, at a depth of 250 metres, you are welcome to take a refreshing swim in the water basins and afterwards a sunbath on the heated rocks.
Baroque slendour at nearby Noto
Noto, located only 8 km from Avola, is considered the most beautiful baroque town of Sicily, and rightly so; furthermore, it is entitled to call itself World Heritage Site.
The Old Town is often compared with a stage setting: the ensemble of palazzi, chiese e piazze and a view reaching all the way to the sea inspire your imagination.
