La Terrazza sul Mare - Bed & Breakfast at Lido di Avola/Sicily

Marvelous views from the "terrace above the sea" at Avola. What the name implies is a fact - only about 50 m lie between B&B La Terrazza sul Mare and the sea. There's a small sandy beach right below the property. A longer sandy beach, partly with service, is only about 300 m off.

The small, family-run B&B is located in the district of Lido di Avola in the southeast of Sicily. Kindness and hospitality are of great importance to family Monello, who lives on the 1st floor of the house.

The guest rooms of B&B La Terrazza sul Mare

The guest rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished in the Arte Povera style typical of southern Italy. Standard facilities include air conditioning/heating, minibar, safe and TV. Some of the rooms also have a small balcony with a marvellous view of the sea.

The rooms at the bed & breakfast are three double rooms, one room for three people and one room for four people.

The flats

On request, we can also arrange one of the two flats, which are located on the ground floor and first floor of the house.

The loft is on the ground floor and, at 40 square metres, offers plenty of space for a couple or, thanks to an extra bed, for a family with a small child. You can prepare delicious meals in the fully equipped kitchen and enjoy them in the loft or on the beautiful terrace with sea views.

The second flat is located on the first floor and can accommodate up to four people. The centrepiece of the flat is the eat-in kitchen, which leads out onto the balcony with sea views. The two double bedrooms each have their own bathroom.

It is great to simply relax in the garden with its splendor of Mediterranean plants and well-tended lawn. Sun loungers, small tables and chairs provide for an atmosphere of ease – and the view of the sea tops off the "dolce far niente", the "sweetness of doing nothing". 

On blue-sky days you might prefer to have breakfast outdoors. Of course, you can also remain in the breakfast room with lounge and reception area. The large picture windows and the view of the garden give you the feeling of sitting out in the open. A sofa corner with SAT-TV and WiFi provides for a comfortable atmosphere.

Parking is available on the fenced property.

Not far from La Terrazza sul Mare lies Salumeria "Il Terrone". It is open year-round for lunch and for dinner and offers local specialties – ideal for a small snack at lunchtime or a light evening meal. You may also profit from a special service Il Terrone offers: packed lunches, for example, for picnics at the beach.

Restaurants are found about 100 m, stores in the center of Lido di Avola about 400 m from the B&B.

Tips for excursions by the owning family

Friendly owning family Monello is happy to pass on to you some insiders’ tips for successful 'activity' holidays. Whether you wish to explore the hinterland on horseback, go on a boat tour with local fishermen or go diving in underwater grottoes or whether you are on the lookout for scenic hiking and cycling tours – the Monellos, who run an "Azienda Agricola" upcountry, know the land and its people like the backs of their hands.

Avola is an ideal starting point for a discovery tour of the numerous sights/sites along the south-eastern coast of Sicily. Siracusa, about 25 km off and once one of the most powerful metropolises of the western world, fascinates you with its wonderfully preserved and UNESCO World Heritage listed Old Town of Ortigia.

Not far from Siracusa lies another World Heritage Site – the necropolis of Pantalica with its more than 5,000 tomb caves. Baroque splendor awaits visitors at Noto, about 10 km from Avola. The "riserve naturali" in the southeast offer untouched nature. The Anapo gorge, the Cava Grande valley near Cassibile and the coastal stretch of Vendicari amaze you with their fantastic landscapes, rich flora and fauna and rare species of animals.
