As the name already suggests: only about 20 m separate the bed & breakfast La Terrazza sul Mare from the sea. Right beneath the property there is a bathing spot (partly sand, partly shingle). The nearest sandy beach is reached within about 300 m.
The small, family-led bed & breakfast is located in the Lido di Avola community in the southeast of Sicily. Wholeheartedness and hospitality are emphasized by the Monello family, who lives on the first floor of the house.
The total of four guest rooms on the second floor are generously laid out and furnished tastefully in the arte povera style typical of Southern Italy. Standard features include air conditioning/heating, mini bar, safe and TV as well as a bathroom with shower/WC/Bidet. The two rooms we have chosen for you additionally offer a small balcony with marvellous view of the sea.
Upon request we will gladly also reserve for you the spacious family room for up to four guests and a large terrace with lateral sea view. Additionally, the owners rent a small apartment for two to four guests (double bed and sleeping couch) on the ground floor with built-in kitchen, dining table and terrace.
Fabulous seating is possible in the garden with its Mediterranean plant splendour and well-tended lawn area. Sun beds, small tables and chairs provide for an atmosphere of well-being – the view upon the sea completes the “dolce far niente”, in English: “the sweet idling”.
On days of beautiful weather you may have breakfast outdoors. Alternatively the breakfast room with lounge and reception is at your disposal. The large glass façades and the view to the garden create a feeling of sitting outdoors. A couch corner with satellite TV and WLAN provides for a comfortable atmosphere.
For dinner the Monello family arranges for a catering service upon request, specialized in the preparation of seafood dishes. Gladly the owners will also entertain you with local specialties like almond milk, sorbet and cookies, orange jam and the famous “Nero d’Avola” wine.
You may park your car on the fenced property.
Restaurants are found within about 100 m, stores in the centre of Lido di Avola within about 400 m.
Gladly the friendly family of proprietors will give you “insider tips” for a successful active vacation. Whether you would like to explore the hinterland on horseback, make boat trips with local fishermen, dive in underwater grottoes or look for scenically attractive hiking and bicycle tours – the Monello family, who run an “Azienda Agricola” in the inland, know both country and people like the back of their hand.
Avola is also an ideal starting point to discover the numerous sights along Sicily’s southeastern coast:
The town of Siracusa, about 25 km away and once one of the most powerful metropolises of the western world, fascinates with its wonderfully preserved Old Town of Ortigia, which has rightfully been declared world cultural heritage by the UNESCO.
Also world cultural heritage is the necropolis of Pantalica near Siracusa with its more than 5000 tomb caves. Baroque splendour awaits the visitor in Noto, about 10 km from Avola..
Untouched nature is offered by the “Riserve Naturali” in the southeast.
The gorge of Anapo, the Cava Grande valley near Cassibile and the coastal stretch of Vendicari attract with their fantastic landscapes, rich flora and fauna and rare animals.
