Within the recently renovated, spacious country estate dating from the 19th century, you will experience rural Sicilian tradition at close range!
Staying at “Il Sultano” combines experiences of beach, culture and nature during your holiday in a unique way. The beach of Punta Secca with its characteristic lighthouse as well as the archeologically significant towns of Caucana and Kamarina are only a stone’s throw away.
Furthermore, the towns of Scicli, Modica and Ragusa, declared World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO, are absolutely worth a visit.
Historic Masseria Il Sultano in Santa Croce Camerina was renovated by the owners with a love for detail.
The two holiday apartments within the estate used to serve as granaries for the farmers. Thus, the building was constructed for storing as many supplies as possible – with wood-beamed ceilings up to 5 metres high and high-level windows. Nowadays, this makes for the special charm of the accommodation.
Guests will surely benefit from the walls which are about one metre strong, thus keeping the warmth inside in winter and the inside cool in summer.
The holiday apartment we offer, “Casa del Giglio”, is located next to the estate’s main building which the owners of Il Sultano use as a summer residence. Via the large garden with its flowers and citrus trees, you will reach the entrance of your holiday apartment and then the comfortable kitchen-cum-living room, the heart of the lodging. It is tastefully furnished and offers Sat-TV.
The two bedrooms, which are equipped with fans, as well as the bathroom are accessible from the kitchen-cum-living room. The smaller bedroom offers a wooden bunk bed. The room with the double bed is held in blue and has been lovingly decorated by the owners. The bathroom of the holiday apartment is equipped with shower, WC and bidet.
In the Mediterranean garden of the holiday apartment, where you will find a barbecue and an outdoor shower, you can relax in a deck chair at the end of a day filled with new impressions or enjoy a Sicilian summer day in the shade of the citrus trees.
On the spacious premises of the estate, there is a small horse farm where riding lessons are possible upon request. However, it is not only on horseback, but also by bike that you can explore the countryside around Santa Croce Camerina.
The owners of Il Sultano rent trekking bikes for 25 Euro per week. Furthermore, they provide sunshades and loungers for the beach as well as baby carriages upon request. You should in no case miss out on the harvest of typical tropical fruit like almonds, prickly pears, carob and lemons in the large fruit orchard of the estate.
Shaded parking lots are to be found in front of the estate. The nearest restaurants and shops are at a distance of 500 and 1000 metres, respectively.
Should you be a fan of Commissario Montalbano, a literary character known beyond the borders of Italy, you will get your money’s worth when stopping at the beach of Punta Secca.
The house inhabited by Commissario Montalbano in the film adaptations of Andrea Camilleri’s novels is only about two kilometres from “Il Sultano”.
The sandy beaches between Punta Secca and Sampieri are not only an impressing motive for films; they are a guarantee for perfect fun at the beach and relaxation at its best!

During your holiday in southeast Sicily, you should not miss visiting the wonderful “Baroque towns of Noto valley”: Scicli (23 km from Santa Croce Camerina), Ragusa (25 km off), Modica (35 km off) and Noto (73 km off). Characteristic features of these towns declared World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO are the Baroque style buildings which were built after the devastating earthquake of 1693.
